Imagine something like…
“Do you love Neal?”
“Yes, of course I love him. I will always love him.”
“But…are you in love with him?”
“I…”
“Is there someone else you have feelings for?”
So, my husband and I were talking about the episode (because we dissect everything together), and a really good point he made was that, when you have a child you love, you will always love the person who helped you create that human being because, without them, you wouldn’t have your son or daughter. And Henry is a pretty damn fine son. Bright and courageous, especially for an 11 year old.
The other thing, though, is that, because she hasn’t allowed herself to really feel for the last 11 years, Emma hasn’t been able to come to terms with her emotions. She just now is experiencing what it is like to really feel for the first time in over a decade. Of course she is going to go back to familiar ground first. But, eventually, I’m sure she is going to want to feel new things.
